Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Qatar has opened applications for the 2027 admission cycle for international and local students across Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral programs.
HBKU offers competitive graduate scholarships that may include tuition waivers and monthly stipends. Selected international graduate students may receive up to QAR 7,000 per month for Master's study and QAR 9,000 per month for PhD study, subject to scholarship eligibility, funding availability and program conditions.

💰 Graduate Scholarship Coverage
Scholarships are not automatically guaranteed to admitted students. Awards depend on academic merit, financial need where applicable, program needs and available funding. No separate general scholarship application is normally required; applicants are considered during the admissions process.

💵 Monthly Stipends
Selected international students may receive:
International Master's: QAR 7,000/month, normally for up to 21 months.
International PhD: QAR 9,000/month, normally for up to 45 months.
Stipends are generally awarded to full-time graduate students serving as research and/or teaching assistants and remain subject to available funding.
✈️ Airfare and Accommodation
International stipend recipients are provided with one round-trip journey during their candidature: an inbound ticket when beginning the program and an outbound ticket upon graduation.
Housing is not automatically free. Students are responsible for accommodation costs using their monthly stipend or personal funds.
🎓 Available Programs
HBKU offers programs across Islamic studies, humanities and social sciences, science and engineering, health and life sciences, law, public policy, education, economics and management.
Current programs include cybersecurity, data science, sustainable energy, sustainable environment, biological and biomedical sciences, genomics and precision medicine, Islamic finance, international affairs, translation, public policy, economics, comparative education, law and many others.
HBKU also currently offers undergraduate programs in Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering.
✅ General Eligibility
Master's applicants generally need a recognized Bachelor's degree with a strong academic record.
PhD applicants generally need an appropriate Master's degree and relevant academic or research preparation.
Many graduate programs specify a minimum GPA of approximately 3.0/4.0, though requirements vary by program.
🗣️ English Requirements
Many English-taught graduate programs require:
- IELTS 6.5, or
- TOEFL iBT 79
Exemptions may apply where previous education was completed in English or where other program-specific conditions are met.

📝 How to Apply
Applicants create an account through HBKU's admissions portal, select the college and program, complete the online application, upload supporting documents, provide referee information, pay the application fee and submit before the relevant deadline.
Graduate applicants may submit up to two applications per academic year.
